Liz French 1939-2019

Very sadly my mother, Liz, died on January 2nd. As a mark of respect the shop will be closed on Friday 25th January as her family and friends gather to celebrate her life.

Susi.

Back in 1983 my mother found herself widowed, the mother of three teenagers ready to fledge, facing an uncertain future with no direction. She made the enormous decision to move hundreds of miles to open a High Street shop, Casa Fina in Salisbury, a city she didn’t know. At the last minute I postponed my university place and joined my mother on this journey. The only retail experience we had was my few years as a Saturday girl in a shoe shop but I attended a two week start up business course and we had the security of using as consultants the owners of an interiors shop my mother had fallen in love with in Surrey. The first year was hard as we learnt everything as we went. If we had a good week we’d treat ourselves to a bottle of gin, if we didn’t it was a good incentive to try harder the next week!

From our tentative start in 1983 Casa Fina settled down to be a much loved part of Salisbury’s retail offer. Many customers became Liz’s friends and the Mediterranean ceramics and rugs that she sourced were snapped up by locals and tourists alike.

In 1999 Liz retired and didn’t look back. She enjoyed seeing what was new and lent a hand when we were changing our displays but she now had time for her love for travel, music, languages and gardening and as the family grew, to be a Grandma.

Casa Fina has continued to evolve and three generations of the family have worked here. On Saturday 30th March we will be repeating our Mother’s Day Tea in the Window from last year, it will be a special way to remember Mum.

Our new website

Our new website was launched last month. Not only do we have a new look but there is also a small online shop which will mean that those of you who aren’t local can still shop with us. The assortment of products will change every few weeks so do have a browse on a regular basis.
